Inspired by the tactile artwork The Known Universe, featured in Beneath the Turning Sky, this hands-on workshop invites participants to collaboratively imagine and create their own universe through a queer-affirmative lens. Drawing from the artwork’s exploration of belonging, materiality, labour, and our relationship with the world around us, participants will use personal objects, storytelling, and collective making to build worlds that centre care, joy, identity, and community.

Participants are required to bring a small object that represents their sense of self, home, or belonging. The object should be no bigger than the palm of your hand. Facilitated by Mira Brunner, the artists behind the piece, this workshop offers a playful and creative space to reimagine the worlds we inhabit and the futures we wish to create.

Mira Brunner

Mira Brunner is a visual artist living in Bengaluru, India. She works across media and her practice functions as collage across dimensions. She’s interested in themes along the lines of time, money, death, and the long arm of the law, but she tries to keep it light. Her piece entitled “The Known Universe”, currently on view in “Beneath the Turning Sky” at the Museum of Art and Photography, is an exploration of the marks humans make on our world. She’s also an archivist, and currently works at QAMRA – the Queer Archive for Memory, Reflection, and Activism.
