A still from the film Unsupervised: A memory playground by Naveed Mulki, Courtesy of Naveed Mulki.
What can a storyteller imagine, looking past a museum object’s history or intent? What are the stories a museum’s collection can inspire a filmmaker to create?
With Unsupervised: a memory playground, filmmaker Naveed Mulki began with a seemingly impossible exercise; to look through the immense collection at MAP and see what it could inspire. What he found though was that seven works seemed to jump out at him from this well of inspiration. Each one unique and different, but also somehow connected as if puzzle pieces meant to fit together. What began as a blank canvas, became a playground of experimentation, where old stories could be retold, entirely new narratives could be imagined, merging the real and tangible with the fictional and ephemeral.
Join us for a screening of select films from the series and a Q&A with the filmmaker.
