On April 26 we lost one of India’s most renowned photographers: the incredible Raghu Rai. Rai’s influence on the history of Indian photography, particularly photojournalism, is immense. For several decades, he represented India’s collective memory—opening a window to people and communities across the nation.

To celebrate his legacy, we are holding a small, informal gathering at MAP centred around a selection of his works from MAP’s collection—a chance for us to be together in his memory, and share stories of Rai (both the person and the practice). The evening will also have photographer and photojournalist Prashant Panjiar(who was handpicked by Rai to join India Today back in 1986)  join us online to share memories of his mentor and the special relationship they shared.

This is for photographers, artists and friends of Rai’s work, or anyone who grew up looking at his photographs and wants to pay their respects. Come as you are.
