A still from A Thousand Colours of Jamini Roy by Amit Dutta, Courtesy of Amit Dutta.

Join us for the launch of three new films from the series A World Within. In this series of films that respond to MAP’s collection, filmmaker Amit Dutta looks at cultural objects as portals that can help us map our past, both critically and creatively, and explore the possibilities that lie ahead in the future. This screening will showcase three films from the series: Blueprint of a Pleasure Machine, A Thousand Colours of Jamini Roy, and Bat-like Devil Chaser with a Top Hat.

Blueprint of a Pleasure Machine unfolds as a gripping spy thriller that follows the journey of a fictional detective through the symbols and desires hidden in the debris of film ephemera in the Museum’s collection. A Thousand Colours of Jamini Roy explores the intricate world of modern artist Jamini Roy’s natural pigments and colours that are each rendered unique unlike the shades of the digital world today.  Additionally, Bat-like Devil Chaser with a Top Hat is a poetic journey through Jyoti Bhatt’s photography, offering a unique portrayal of India over time. Unlike images that mark public events and are traceable to some narrative that marks the collective memorialization process, these pictures present the underlying non-narrative; like a hidden river, flowing quietly beneath the surface.
