Kantha is a textile tradition native to the Indian Subcontinent, in particular West Bengal, Odisha and Bangladesh. ‘Kantha’ refers to both the style of running stitch, as well as the finished cloth, and is usually practiced by women. The literal meaning of the word, however, is rags or discarded fabric, which is what the women use in the creation of these textiles.
In this resource pack, learn more about the kantha tradition, spend time colouring some kanthas from the MAP collection, engage in a group quilt-making activity and much more!
