MAP launches a new talk series, Deep Dive, that spotlights art and culture from different global and transcultural contexts, with Navina Haider.
The artistic traditions of Islam represent both change and continuity in a dynamic story that has unfolded across the world for over 14 centuries. Spiritual devotion inspired new forms of artistic expression while ideas, artists and styles traversed cultural borders to forge powerful visual idioms. The interplay of Islam with other traditions reflects the individual contexts within which its arts developed. This lecture explores the diverse artistic legacies of Islam through the encyclopedic collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
