Kafeel Jafri
Join us for the performance Dastan-e-Sitayana by Kafeel Jafri, a Dastangoi retelling of the events in various versions described in Ramayana — from Sita’s perspective.
Using poetry, prose and some songs in Hindustani language, the performance narrates the story of Sita; from her being found in the agricultural field in sowing season as a newborn, to the one who was taken into the embrace of Bhoomi, hence her other name Bhoomija which translates to ‘The Daughter of the Earth’. Staying true to the elements of Dastangoi form, the performance involves fantasy, love, war and wisdom inherent in the ancient story.
This performance has been curated under Living Cultures, the public programming theme for the quarter and MAP’s ongoing exhibition Book of Gold: The Kanchana Chitra Ramayana of Banaras.
