Most times when we see an artwork at a museum, we look to its label to know more about it. Artwork labels are a critical part of museum exhibits — they can frame perceptions, offer perspectives, challenge assumptions, and provide explanations. Museum professionals dedicate a large amount of time discussing labels and studying what effects they have on visitor behaviour.
Led by MAP’s Jayati Srivastava, this session will begin with a guided walk of the ongoing exhibition, Outside-In: Meera Mukherjee and Jaidev Baghel. This will be followed by an activity where participants will be split into groups, and they choose an object at the exhibition to collaboratively come up with an alternate label for. The final part of the workshop will focus on group discussions on the labels created, insights gleaned, and explore questions like, “What story will a visitor leave with after they read a museum label?”
This workshop is free and open to those who are 18 years and above.
Bookings are closed for this event.
