Join us for a film screening event in collaboration with Virtual Bharat and RIST. Discover the vibrant cultural heritage of Uttarakhand through three captivating films: The Nomad’s Land: Van Gujjars, The Women of Almora, and Bahi.

The Women of Almora is about the fading art of tweed making which was revived by the Almora women and how they are transforming their communities through this. The film The Nomad’s Land: Van Gujjar showcases the rich cultural heritage and lifestyle of the Van Gujjar community in Uttarakhand. Finally, the film Bahi explores the ancient tradition of handwritten family records maintained by Teerth Purohits in Haridwar, showcasing its significance in preserving ancestral lineages and its potential decline in the digital age.

These films offer the viewer an insider’s perspective into the region’s rich traditions, art forms, and communities that practise them. The session will conclude with a short Q&A session with renowned filmmaker, Bharatbala to discuss the inspiration behind these films and the power of storytelling in preserving cultural heritage.
