Varaha Avatar of Vishnu

The four artworks depict Varaha, one of the dashavataras (ten avatars), of the Hindu deity, Vishnu. Commonly depicted anthropomorphically with a boar’s head and a human body, Varaha’s chaturbhuja (four-armed) form holds a conch, lotus, discus and mace. According to Hindu mythology, Varaha is the avatar who defeats the demon Hiranyakashipu and rescues the earth goddess, Bhudevi, returning her to place in the universe.
