People of India Series –Pushpamala N and Clare Arni

Pushpamala N (b. 1956) is well known as a photo-performance artist. In collaboration with British photojournalist Clare Arni (b. 1962), she created a series to remake stereotypes about “native” women as defined by objectifying, colonial classifications.

She draws from a wide range of sources including colonial photography, historical paintings and regional cinema. Through her elaborately detailed studio photographs, Pushpamala restages popular prints and images to change their public perception.

ಪುಷ್ಪಮಾಲಾ ಎನ್ (ಜ. 1956) ಛಾಯಾಚಿತ್ರ-ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಕಲಾವಿದೆಯಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಫೋಟೋ ಜರ್ನಲಿಸ್ಟ್ ಕ್ಲೇರ್ ಅರ್ನಿ (ಜ. 1962) ಅವರ ಸಹಯೋಗದೊಂದಿಗೆ, "ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ" ಮಹಿಳೆಯರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಇರುವ ಪೂರ್ವಾಗ್ರಹಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಭೋಗವಸ್ತುವೆಂಬ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಕೋನ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಲು ವಸಾಹತುಶಾಹಿ ವರ್ಗೀಕರಣಗಳನ್ನು ಮರುನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿ ಅವರು ಈ ಸರಣಿಯನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿದರು.

ವಸಾಹತುಶಾಹಿ ಛಾಯಾಗ್ರಹಣ, ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ವರ್ಣಚಿತ್ರಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ವ್ಯಾಪಕ ಶ್ರೇಣಿಯ ಮೂಲಗಳಿಂದ ಅವರು ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಿದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ವಿಸ್ತಾರವಾದ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿವರಪೂರಿತ ಸ್ಟುಡಿಯೋ ಛಾಯಾಚಿತ್ರಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ, ಪುಷ್ಪಮಾಲಾ ಅವರು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರ ಗ್ರಹಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಲು ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಮುದ್ರಣಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಮರುಹೊಂದಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
