Karnataka Series – T.S. Satyan - Visual Storage

T.S. Satyan (1923–2009) worked as a photojournalist in the 1960s, when India’s socio-political and economic landscape underwent significant change and evolution. The fact that Satyan’s work reflected on Indian life could indicate what still makes it relevant.

Through these photographs, Satyan documents and composes the everyday life of Karnataka. In the most contextual and rhythmic manner possible, the images slow down and draw the viewer's attention in. With his indulgent humanist perspective, Satyan rejoiced in what he referred to as “intimate intrusions.”

1960 ರ ದಶಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹತ್ತರವಾದ ಸಮಾಜೋ-ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಸ್ಥಿತ್ಯಂತರ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿಕಸನದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಟಿ.ಎಸ್. ಸತ್ಯನ್ (1923-2009) ಫೋಟೋ ಜರ್ನಲಿಸ್ಟ್ ಆಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಸತ್ಯನ್ ಅವರ ಕೆಲಸವು ಭಾರತೀಯ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಫಲಿಸಿದ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಆ ಕೆಲಸಗಳು ಇನ್ನೂ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತವಾಗಿವೆ ಎಂದು ಅರಿಯಬಹುದು.

ಈ ಛಾಯಾಚಿತ್ರಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಸತ್ಯನ್ ಅವರು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ದೈನಂದಿನ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಮೂಲಕ ದಾಖಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ರಚಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸಾಂದರ್ಭಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಮನಮುಟ್ಟುವ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ವೀಕ್ಷಕರ ಗಮನವನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮೊಳಕ್ಕೆ ಸೆಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಸತ್ಯನ್ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಎಂದಿನ ಮನಸ್ಸೆಳೆಯುವ ಮಾನವತಾವಾದಿ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಕೋನದಿಂದ, ಈ ಕ್ಷಣಗಳನ್ನು ‘ನಿಕಟ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಕೆಗಳು’ ಎಂದು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿದರು.
