Engravings and Prints – Haren Das - Visual Storage

Born in pre-partition Bengal, printmaker Haren Das (1921–1993) longed for the pastoral calm, a sentiment that is reflected in his prints. Practising during a time of great political and social turbulence in the country, he turned, instead, to chronicling events of daily life.

His rural vignettes, rendered through densely engraved or sparsely-cut wood blocks, depicted people in their daily occupational roles – offering a glimpse into a Bengal that no longer exists.

ವಿಭಜನಾ ಪೂರ್ವ ಬಂಗಾಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದ, ಮುದ್ರಣ ತಯಾರಕ ಹರೇನ್ ದಾಸ್ (1921-1993) ಅವರ ಮುದ್ರಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಫಲಿಸುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಒಂದು ಬಗೆಯ ಆಳವಾದ ಶಾಂತತೆಗಾಗಿ ಹಾತೊರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ದೊಡ್ಡ ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪ್ರಕ್ಷುಬ್ಧತೆಯ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಅವರು, ಕಾಲಾಂತರದಲ್ಲಿ ದೈನಂದಿನ ಜೀವನದ ಘಟನೆಗಳನ್ನು ದಾಖಲಿಸತೊಡಗಿದರು.

ದಟ್ಟವಾಗಿ ಕೆತ್ತಿದ ಅಥವಾ ವಿರಳವಾಗಿ ಕತ್ತರಿಸಿದ ಮರದ ದಿಮ್ಮಿಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಲಾದ ಅವರ ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಚಿತ್ರಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಜನರನ್ನು ಅವರ ದೈನಂದಿನ ಔದ್ಯೋಗಿಕ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದು ಇದು ಈಗ ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿಲ್ಲದ ಬಂಗಾಳದ ಒಂದು ನೋಟವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ.
