Maratha Paintings

Maratha paintings primarily originated from the Deccan, under the rule of the Maratha Empire. They are uniquely characterised by their use of bright and opaque colours, and detailed scenes. This style of painting drew influences from different cultures of the time, including European and Mughal, and often portrayed scenes from Hindu mythology and epics, as well as portraits of rulers. The four Maratha paintings here each depict a scene from the Mahabharata.

ಮರಾಠಾ ವರ್ಣಚಿತ್ರಗಳು ಮೂಲತಃ ಮರಾಠಾ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ದಕ್ಖನಿ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡವು. ಅವು ದಟ್ಟ ಮತ್ತು ಅಪಾರದರ್ಶಕ ಬಣ್ಣಗಳ ಬಳಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ವಿವರವಾದ ದೃಶ್ಯಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ್ದು ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಸೃಜಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿವೆ. ಈ ಶೈಲಿಯ ಚಿತ್ರಕಲೆಯನ್ನು ಯುರೋಪಿಯನ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮೊಘಲ್ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಆ ಕಾಲದ ವಿವಿಧ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಭಾವವನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡು, ಬಹುತೇಕ ಹಿಂದೂ ಪುರಾಣ ಮತ್ತು ಮಹಾಕಾವ್ಯಗಳ ದೃಶ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಗೂ ದೊರೆಗಳ ಭಾವಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಲು ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಯಿತು. ಇಲ್ಲಿರುವ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಮರಾಠಾ ವರ್ಣಚಿತ್ರಗಳು ಒಂದೊಂದೂ ಮಹಾಭಾರತದ ಒಂದು ದೃಶ್ಯವನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರಿಸುತ್ತವೆ.
