Nathaniel Gaskell

Nathaniel Gaskell is a curator, editor and arts administrator based in Singapore. He began his career with Eric Franck Fine Art in London before moving to India as director of the Tasveer Gallery (2010-14). He was Associate Director of the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP) (2014-19), Bengaluru, and then Executive Director of its educational platform – the MAP Academy (2019-24). In 2024, Nathaniel joined the STPI Gallery, Singapore, as Assistant Director (Exhibition Programming and Content Development).

He is the co-author of Photography in India: A Visual History from the 1850s to the Present (Prestel), and the editor of William Dalrymple’s The Historian’s Eye (HarperCollins India), Derry Moore’s In the Shadow of the Raj (Prestel) and Hikari: Contemporary Photography from Japan (Japan Foundation). Exhibitions he has curated include India Through the Lens (National Museum of Bahrain), From the Colonial to the Contemporary (Monash Gallery of Art, Melbourne) and Jyoti Bhatt: Time & Time Again (Museum of Art and Photography, Bengaluru).

Nathaniel holds a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from the AUB, UK, and an MRes (Master of Research) in Cultural Studies from the London Consortium. He is on the board of the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP), Bengaluru, and a fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society.
