Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is the Chairperson and Managing Director of Biocon Limited. She was awarded the ‘Othmer Gold Medal’ by the U.S.-based Chemical Heritage Foundation, for her outstanding contributions to the progress of science and chemistry in 2014, and the coveted ‘2014 Global Economy Prize for Business’ by Germany-based Kiel Institute for the World Economy. She is a member of the Board of Governors at the Indian School of Business, and also the first woman to head the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. She has also been conferred the Padma Shri (1989) and Padma Bhushan (2005), presented to her by the President of India for her innovative efforts in Industrial Biotechnology. Mrs Mazumdar-Shaw has featured in TIME magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. She has also been on the Forbes’ list of the most powerful women and ‘The Financial Times Top 50 Women in Business’ list.
