Agni, the Hindu god of fire, embodies both creation and destruction. This deity has been a central figure in art, with depictions dating back as early as the 1st century BCE. Agni appears in both figural or human forms and non-figural representations, such as the personification of sacred fire. In the latest episode of Museums Without Borders, MAP collaborates with the Cleveland Museum of Art to juxtapose two portrayals of Agni: a c. 1000 sandstone sculpture of the god and a folio from the Bhagvata Purana depicting Rama performing the Ashwamedha Yagna, where Agni manifests as the sacred fire.
