From the loom to the line: What poetic threads will you weave from the art of the trademark?

This poetry workshop explores poetry as a tool of expression and transformation across languages and cultures. Following the workshop, participants will engage in a poetry recital. They will use artworks featured in the Ticket Tika Chaap: The Art of the Trademark in Indo-British Textile Trade, exhibition to inspire new kinds of poems and writing. We’ll use visual art and performance to explore words and ideas in creative ways. This workshop will be followed by a performance.

This multilingual workshop is open to participants from any linguistic background. Medium of the facilitation will be English.  

This workshop is the first in the series, Responding to Art through the Arts.

Only for 18-25 year olds.

Mamta Sagar

Mamta Sagar (1966) is an acclaimed Kannada poet, playwright, translator,
and academic from Bengaluru. Her work explores themes of identity,
feminism, and cultural diversity. She has authored several poetry
collections and plays, including Kaada Navilina Hejje and Pada Sanchara,
with translations published in English and Spanish.

Mamta has translated The Forty Rules of Love into Kannada and led numerous international cross-cultural literary projects. A recipient of the Charles Wallace Fellowship, the World Literary Prize-2024, her poetry films and murals are showcased and installed at metro stations and public spaces. Professor Sagar teaches at the Srishti Institute of Manipal University, Bengaluru.
