MAP invites you to an evening marking the launch of Hervé Perdriolle’s new book — the first publication devoted entirely to the artwork of artist  Jivya Soma Mashe (1934–2018).

A seminal figure of the Warli community in Maharashtra, Mashe transformed a ritual painting tradition into a powerful contemporary visual language. As Perdriolle suggests, he belongs to a lineage of artists — or “authors,” in Jean Dubuffet’s sense — whose works expand how we understand culture itself, revealing its depth, plurality, and imagination.

During the event, curator and art critic Perdriolle, will introduce the publication and speak about Mashe’s practice, with a special focus on a work currently on view in MAP’s exhibition Beneath the Turning Sky

The evening will conclude with a book signing and an opportunity to meet the author.
