Explore MAP’s collection of Bollywood film paraphernalia, including lobby cards, stills, posters, vinyl covers and music booklets, all featuring guns from the 1960s to the 2000s in this special session.
The session will begin with our archivists presenting objects from the collection on stage, giving you a chance to see them up-close while providing detailed insights. Following this, Senior Researcher at the Bank of America Project of Museum of Art & Photography presents on how the portrayal of guns in Indian cinema reflects various aspects of society, including violence, power, protection, honour, justice, social and national trends, gender markers and human character; and how guns may have been presented or perceived as status symbols and memorial objects.
Last, but not least, will be a lively Bollywood trivia quiz where you can share your interpretations of these iconic objects. Join us for an exciting journey through the golden age of Bollywood!
