Installation view of Dialogues in Stone at MAP, Bengaluru

Join us at MAP for a talk by the British sculptor, Stephen Cox whose sculptures of Yoginis and Rishis carved in basalt greet audiences as they enter the museum. Reflecting on his journey so far, Cox will talk about his practice, inspirations and earlier works that led him from his home in the UK to Italy and India and later still to Egypt where he continues to make sculpture.

Since 1985, when he first visited by invitation of the British Council, Cox has spent a considerable amount of time working in India. Drawing from Cox’s observations of architectural sites and monuments in Mahabalipuram, Dialogues in Stone, his exhibition at MAP embodies mythical beings through minimalist forms.

Join us as Cox explores the narratives embedded within stones and gives us a glimpse into his process of bringing these stories to life.
