Lines of Love

Often when we think of places and people that do not get enough representation and visibility, we imagine these to be a unit – undivided, clean, and held together by the singular experience of being a ‘marginalised’ community. This is usually untrue. Within these groups lies divides borne of differences in ethnicity, language, or simply, a sense of belonging. Investigating their diverse nature can help bring us a step closer to understanding the complexities of identity politics.
Join us for a session of live poetry readings and conversation between poets that think and speak from these spaces of multiplicity and plurality. In this session, we tune into the voices of poets Noor Hindi, and Shivanee Ramlochan, followed by a conversation moderated by Sanam Sheriff.

Noor Hindi
Poet and Reporter
Noor Hindi (she/her/hers) is a Palestinian-American poet and reporter. Her debut collection of poems, Dear God. Dear Bones. Dear Yellow was published by Haymarket Books. She is currently editing a Palestinian global anglophone anthology with George Abraham (Haymarket Books, 2024). She is a 2021 Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellow.
Sanam Sheriff
Poet and Artist
Sanam Sheriff (they/she) is a queer poet and artist from Bengaluru, India. They have received support from the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, The Watering Hole, Pink Door, The Seventh Wave. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Indiana Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, The Academy of American Poets, The Offing, Vinyl Poetry & Prose, Black Warrior Review, Kweli Journal, Shade Literary Arts, and elsewhere. Sanam holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Washington University in St. Louis. She is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Bryn Mawr College and is working, with much love, on her debut poetry collection.
Shivanee Ramlochan
Poet
Shivanee Ramlochan is a Trinidadian writer and critic. Her debut book of poems, Everyone Knows I Am a Haunting (Peepal Tree Press, 2017), was shortlisted for the 2018 Forward Prize for Best First Collection. Her second book, Unkillable, essays on Indo-Caribbean women’s disobedience, is forthcoming from Noemi Press in 2023.
