Kathi Kathi Kaarana

When

May 28, 2023
4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

A sanitation worker dreams of becoming a lawyer to fight for her and her fellow workers’ rights; a mother dreams of sharing her secrets and struggles with her child; a woman rehearses to prepare for a difficult conversation with her boyfriend…

Join us at the screening of Kathi Kathi Kaarana (trans. Tell Tale Travels), an anthology of ‘true fiction’ created and produced by informalised workers from Bengaluru, designed & facilitated by Varun Kurtkoti. Following the screening, there will be an interactive session with the makers.

The film was born from a weekend film school, facilitated by Kurtkoti, that explored the language of storytelling, wellbeing and mental health, as imagined by a diverse set of contributors – an auto driver, sanitation workers, workers from a sex workers union, and some of their family members.

The film is produced by Unbox Cultural Futures Society, Quicksand Studio, and supported by Wellcome Trust, as part of Mindscapes, an initiative informed and inspired by Wellcome’s mental health programme.

This screening is organised as part of the programming around Mindscapes: In the company of others.

Language: Kannada, Tamil, English; Subtitles: English
