The exhibition, In Celestial Company, celebrates divine helpers and wondrous animals and this event explores how deeply connected we are to the natural world.

Kalaripayattu, an ancient Indian martial art, takes inspiration from the movements of animals, such as the snake, horse, peacock, elephant and more. By observing and mimicking nature, this practice has influenced our cultures and way of life for centuries.

Join movement artist Chandramohan for a lecture demonstration where he’ll show how animal movements in Kalari develop grounding, alertness, intuition, and strength, highlighting the art’s beautiful connection with nature and balance.

This event is in conjunction with In Celestial Company exhibition programming.

Chandramohan is a multidisciplinary movement artist rooted in Kalaripayattu, the ancient martial art of Kerala. Trained under Lakshman Gurukkal at Kalarigram, he continues this lineage today as a Kalari trainer, sharing both its martial discipline and its deeper philosophical wisdom.

His artistic practice weaves Kalari, contemporary dance, choreography, acting, and somatic exploration. His movement research explores the whole tradition of Kalaripayattu—how its principles reflect nature, human life, and the organic intelligence of the body.

With over 12 years of teaching experience, Chandramohan brings a pedagogy that blends clarity, rigor, and openness, allowing students from diverse backgrounds to experience movement with depth and awareness.
