Join Shruti Tharayil for a guided foraging walk and uncover the edible ecosystems hidden within our urban landscapes.

Curated by Forgotten Greens, Wild Food Walks are immersive community experiences that invite participants to reconnect with wild, edible plants growing all around us. The session also introduces Map the Wild. This light strategy board game is set in a climate-altered city, where players navigate survival using wild edible and medicinal plants, and discover how traditional ecological knowledge can shape more resilient futures.

This programme is in conjunction with the  exhibition, Paper Gardens: Art Botany and Empire.

Shruti Tharayil

Shruti has a penchant for weaving stories at the intersection of biodiversity, caste, and food systems. She has worked as an educator, writer, and independent researcher, consulting on diverse projects and collaborating with communities to decolonize and reimagine education and food systems. Her worldview has been shaped by over a decade of grassroots work, journeying alongside Indigenous, Dalit, and pastoral communities across Southern India, which has strengthened her narratives and collaborative practice.

She is the founder of Forgotten Greens, an initiative focused on reviving the fast-disappearing traditions of consuming uncultivated greens. Shruti actively seeks new experiences to expand her own process of unlearning. In early 2024, she undertook a solo cycling journey covering 700 km across three states, documenting lesser-known food practices across South India.
