Join us for a hands-on, immersive workshop where participants will craft their own Asalato—a traditional West African percussion instrument and learn how to play it. Guided step by step, participants will be introduced to the materials, techniques, and rhythms that bring this unique instrument to life.
The session also offers a glimpse into the cultural histories and stories behind the Asalato, alongside a brief exploration of indigenous sounds from across the world. Through group exercises and playful musical interactions, participants will experience the joy of collective rhythm-making, culminating in a fun, informal performance.
This workshop will include a guided walk of Beneath the Turning Sky.
No prior experience is required.
Participants are encouraged to bring materials like small pebbles, marbles, and other items that will be incorporated into the instrument.
