This talk looks at how changing weather, excessive heat, floods and more are causing mental distress to agricultural workers. Older women, already burdened by age-related health issues, are finding it harder to cope. The burden on women is disproportionately higher—fetching firewood and water takes more time and energy as summers arrive earlier, last longer and are hotter than before. Cooking on burning fires adds to their overall heat stress, often a job they do outside the home as well.
