Join us for an intimate talk featuring stories from women who shaped and experienced Bangalore’s music scene in the 80s and 90s – from church choirs and local bands, to street performances and listening circles. 

In conversation with younger artists led by Kirtana Kumar, this session reflects on musical practices of women in Bangalore’s Cantonment across generations. This conversation will be accompanied by archival material from the city’s rock and music history.

Gayathri Lakshmi

Gayathri Lakshmi (Gayuu) teaches English and Theatre at St. Joseph’s University. She loves to read and it is her mission to read everything with love and care. When she isn’t lazying around, she likes cooking, writing and joying around. She is a huge fan of the colour Blue and the Irish artist Hozier. Her work aims to get her favourite teachers, students, and artists giggle with joy and love.

Nikhita Thomas

Nikhita Thomas is presently pursuing a Creative Writing MFA from South Bend, Indiana where there are no cows on the road. She loves a long list of ladies, especially Fran Lebowitz. Her foundation project, Cantt Chill. Won’t Chill: Women and Hanging Out in Bengaluru Cantonment was implemented by India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) under the Project 560 program, made possible with support from BNP Paribas India.

Kirtana Kumar

Kirtana is a well known theatre artist, you might also know her from the short story collection Bangalore Blues. In the 80s and 90s, she used to play in a band with Konarak Reddy.
