Bengaluru’s nightlife and its offerings in live music & entertainment revolve around the city’s thriving pub culture. Whether it is frequenting older rock ‘n’ roll establishments that have been around for decades, or trying out artisanal craft beers at the hippest new microbreweries – Bengaluru’s denizens have long accepted pubs as their go-to recreational setting.

From drowning in drinks and dirty dancing at the Night Watchman, to cool conversations over a chilled beer at Toit, Namma Ooru’s vast and storied pub scene has stood the test of time, buzzing with life as new names and faces walk through its doors.

Join us for this session with speakers Dheeraj M Kumar, Liam Timms, and Pravesh Pandey in conversation with Vidya Iyengar, as we learn more about what distinguishes the pub culture of Bengaluru, its roots and growth, and how myriad establishments have catered to diverse audiences spanning generations.

Vidya Iyengar

Deputy Editor, City Express

Vidya Iyengar is the Deputy Editor for City Express, the daily features’ supplement of The New Indian Express. With over 11 years of experience, ranging from hardcore news to Sunday features, Iyengar currently heads the lifestyle section which does a deep dive into all things Bengaluru.

Her achievements include being selected to participate in the Asia Pacific Gender Equality Exchange Program, in Tokyo, Japan, in 2019. She was also awarded the ‘Star Mirror Award’ at the Bangalore Mirror, a publication she was associated with between 2014- 2018. She is also guest faculty at colleges and is on the jury for several competitions.

Pravesh Pandey

Former Partner & Director, Byg Brewsky Brewing Co.

Pravesh Pandey has over 20 years of experience in Hospitality Management, Business Development, Financial Management, Operational Excellence, Brand Management, Marketing & Strategising.

Professionally a hotel management graduate, he has got the opportunity to work with the best companies globally. Pandey was working with Peninsular & Orient Cruise Company and later, with companies like JSM Corporation, as the Director of Operations for Hard Rock Cafe and Shiro in India. He was also the Business Head in Impresario Entertainment & Hospitality Pvt. Ltd.

Pandey’s learning over 17 years in the industry revolves around understanding the psychology of restaurant consumers, evolution in the restaurant industry, and how things have changed in the restaurant segment in the current era.

Dheeraj M Kumar

Entrepreneur and Restaurateur

Dheeraj M Kumar is a serial entrepreneur, national award-winning restaurateur, managing committee member of the National Restaurant Association of India and also a national award winning musician. He was the founding partner and managing partner of Opus Out of the Box and Knowhere Bar and Kitchen.

He is also the founder of the Happy People Music Festival which is one of India’s first social music festivals, and Managing Director of Threesome Hospitality Pvt Ltd – a restaurant management and hospitality consultancy company.

Liam Timms


Liam Timms graduated from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs USA, majoring in International Business. He is responsible for the expansion and development of the ‘Pecos’ brand and ushering in new initiatives in operations and brand management. He was also instrumental in digitising significant customer loyalty initiatives, launching the Pecos App and modernising the companies POS and ERP.

Timms is a passionate restaurateur who devotes his time to training the Pecos Managers to maintain the high standards of customer service, that has made Pecos iconic over the years.
