Join us for a guided walk of our latest exhibition, “Chay Reds, Ferrous Black” with curator Yash Sanhotra. This exhibition reveals the untold stories of Indian textiles found in Sri Lanka. Featuring exquisite Palampores and textile fragments, dating back to the 18th century, they once graced humble homes as well as sacred temples. Today, they serve as storytellers, weaving together the rich and intricate history shared between two ancient cultures.

Yash Sanhotra
Yash Sanhotra is a textile and apparel designer, researcher, educator and costume designer. His work focuses on the cultural and historical significance of South Asian textiles and costumes. In 2019, Yash worked with the USTTAD Project, in order to develop an apparel collection with the weavers of Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh. In 2020, he worked with the indigenous brown cotton cultivated in North Karnataka, to develop a range of textiles, in collaboration with Udaanta Trust and The Registry of Sarees.
His commitment to preserving textile heritage extends to roles in documentation and handling of historical textiles for institutions such as the The Registry of Sarees, the Museum of Art and Photography (MAP), and NID Archives. In 2023, Yash taught grade 6 students a course on textiles and lifestyle accessory design in collaboration with Teach For India fellow Abhishek Chavan.
As a creative, Yash continues to explore sustainable practices and cultural narratives through robust research, education and design practices. He believes, it is through honouring the cultural identities that a community can weave together the tangible and intangible values and embroider memories into our consciousness.
