Join us for a mellow, beginner-friendly pigment-making session on extracting colours from botanical sources. This is an opportunity to slow down, take a close look at colours in their natural form, and witness them transform on paper! During this workshop, participants will learn to extract inks and pigments from select botanical sources using simple techniques.
There will be demonstrations of these techniques, followed by guided hands-on colour-making by everyone attending. Upon making the colours, each participant will get to paint with the extracted inks and pigments on paper and take home their artworks at the end of the session.
This event is in conjunction with Paper Gardens: Art, Botany, and Empire.
‘Paper Gardens’ marks the continuation of a sustained, years-long collaboration between MAP and Impart — an online platform fostering greater public engagement with the art and cultural histories of South Asia.
