As part of the exhibition, ‘Book of Gold: The Kanchana Chitra Ramayana of Banaras’, the dispersed folios from the manuscript have been virtually reconstructed as a flipbook. This resource, containing 1048 pages, serves as a digital alternative to the original manuscript, which is no longer available in its entirety. It has been recreated using photographs taken by the American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS), which obtained permission to photograph all seven kandas of this manuscript in both colour and black-and-white, prior to the manuscript’s separation and sale in the art market. Now, in conjunction with this exhibition, these documented images, along with photographs of the manuscripts featured in the exhibition, are used to create this flipbook making it available for the first time to the public in its near entirety.
