Design in India

Contemporary Expressions & Traditional Languages

In its last feature under the Creative Connections theme, MAP presents fashion designer David Abraham (of the fashion house Abraham & Thakore) in conversation with textiles designer and educator Aditi Ranjan, co-editor of Handmade in India, an encyclopaedic record of craft traditions across the length and breadth of the country.

The duo talks about the adaptive and sustainable practices that have shaped Indian textiles and craft through time. The session also examines the need for contemporary Indian design to be aware of the knowledge that diverse living traditions in India offer, illustrated by Abraham & Thakore designs that create a modern vocabulary while drawing upon these rich histories.
