DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walkthrough of the herbal gardens at the National
  Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) campus - a serene green spot nestle
 d between a maze of labs\, and beloved by students\, staff\, faculty\, and
  resident cats alike.\n\nIts roots trace to a ground breaking exhibit in 2
 008 where former cell biologist and scholar of Indian botanical-medicinal 
 traditions\, Annamma Spudich\, brought 50 medicinal plants described in th
 e Hortus Malabaricus and planted a living exhibition in its spot. This exh
 ibition\, titled "Such Treasure and Rich Merchandize: Indian Botanical kno
 wledge in 16th and 17th Century European Books"\, was not only a unique co
 llaboration between horticulturalists\, artists\, and historians\, but als
 o one of the many growing efforts by the institution\, to reflect on histo
 ry and society.\n\nAlmost two decades later\, the garden thrives\, but how
  much of a curation remains? And how have those initial ideas grown? Disco
 ver its story and learn about the Archives at NCBS and their work to docum
 ent contemporary botanical records amongst its larger catalogue of history
  of science.\n\nThis programme is in collaboration with NCBS\, and in conj
 unction with MAP's ongoing exhibition\, Paper Gardens: Art\, Botany and Em
 pire.
