DESCRIPTION:In this sumptuously illustrated lecture\, Stephen Huyler takes 
 us through his practice. Using selected exhibitions\, films\, and books he
  will talk about the ways in which he has innovatively reframed – and pu
 shed audiences to reconsider – the cultural heritage and creative practi
 ces of India.  \n\nThis presentation at MAP heralds the release of 'Tran
 sformed By India\,' his memoir that records many of his experiences during
  52 years of annual travel on roads far from India's beaten paths. For hal
 f a century\, Dr. Huyler has been conducting field research in India\, att
 empting to document otherwise little-noticed visual cultures. As a noted p
 hotographer\, author\, and curator\, he has organized dozens of exhibition
 s at major museums across the world\, including in India\, and has publish
 ed seven books and many other chapters and articles. Huyler's work attempt
 s to stretch the limits of understanding\, challenging individuals to refr
 ame their ideas and notions of South Asia.
