DESCRIPTION:Botanical gardens have long operated as sites of inquiry\, coll
 ection\, and visualisation\, underpinning practices of classification and 
 production of botanical illustration. In this walkthrough and workshop\, w
 e re-examine historic botanical gardens within broader frameworks of imper
 ial science and cultural production.\n\nForegrounding orchids\, we trace t
 he emergence of nineteenth‑century Victorian orchid mania\, engage with 
 rare varieties represented in the exhibition\, and reconsider Indian botan
 ical knowledge and labour in these visual records.\n\nThe workshop conclud
 es with a lecture-demonstration in orchid cultivation by The Orchid Societ
 y of Karnataka (TOSKAR)\, connecting these archival documents to contempor
 ary horticultural practice and expertise.\n\nThis programme is in conjunct
 ion with MAP’s ongoing exhibition\, Paper Gardens: Art\, Botany and Empi
 re.\n
