SUMMARY:Paper Gardens: Deaf-led
DESCRIPTION:Experience Paper Gardens: Art\, Botany and Empire through a Dea
f-led walkthrough that reimagines how we engage with botanical art.\n\nThi
s guided tour invites Deaf audiences to engage with the exhibition’s exp
loration of botanical illustrations created in India between the 17th and
 19th centuries\, and the complex histories of colonialism\, labour\, and k
nowledge embedded within them. These works were not merely aesthetic studi
es of plants\, but part of a larger scientific project that documented nat
ive species for their potential medicinal and commercial value within impe
rial economies. \n\nLed by Akanksha Kamble from the MAP team \, the walkt
hrough offers an inclusive\, visual-first encounter with the exhibition\,
opening up conversations around art and ecology.\n\nThis programme is in c
onjunction with the ongoing exhibition\, Paper Gardens: Art Botany and Emp
ire.\n\n‘Paper Gardens’ marks the continuation of a sustained\, years-
long collaboration between MAP and Impart — an online platform fostering
greater public engagement with the art and cultural histories of South As
 ia.
