 nant force in South India and beyond. Known for their architectural achiev
 ements\, such as grand temples\, their maritime influence\, and cultural c
 ontributions\, the Cholas left a lasting legacy on India and the wider reg
 ion.\n\nKanisetti’s work brings to light the lives of not only the ruler
 s but also the everyday people who shaped and lived through this era. Usin
 g inscriptions and historical records\, he separates fact from legend\, of
 fering a nuanced view of this influential dynasty.\n\nThis book was made p
 ossible through a research grant provided to the author by the MAP Academy
 . The MAP Academy develops and provides open-access resources on the art a
 nd cultural histories of South Asia. Their digital offerings — including
  an encyclopedia of art\, online courses\, and several grants and special 
 projects — encourage greater engagement with the region’s visual arts.
