Hear directly from the curators of Bhuri Bai – My Life as an Artist on the process of putting together the online exhibition and insights gained while working with the artist, as they present her work in the context of indigenous art in India and the world.

Narrated using the artists’ own words and autobiographical paintings, combined with new research, this exhibition charts Bhuri Bai’s inspiring journey from growing up as a daily wage worker from a marginalised community to becoming a successful contemporary artist.


Mustafa Khanbhai

Artist and writer

 

Mustafa Khanbhai is an artist and writer. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Visual Art (Sculpture) from MS University, Vadodara, and his Master’s degree in Visual Art from Ambedkar University, Delhi. His writing explores folklore and alternative historical narratives, particularly in vernacular and indigenous art. His art practice consists of animation, painting and long exposure photography centred around shifting weather patterns, architecture and ecological phenomena. He has participated in various festivals, residency programs and exhibitions in India and abroad.

Shrey Maurya

Writer, researcher and editor

 

Shrey Maurya is a writer, researcher and editor. She was formerly a commissioning editor at Sahapedia, where she worked with a wide range of subjects, including Lutyens’ architecture in Delhi, handloom industries in India and Vajrayana Buddhism in eastern Himalayan countries. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi, and a Master’s degree in Visual Art from Ambedkar University, Delhi.
