SUMMARY:Architectural Ceramics of the Indian Subcontinent: A Vanishing Lega
 cy
DESCRIPTION:Cut tile mosaic decoration in a panel on the outside of the Fri
day Mosque in Mathura\, 1660\,  Courtesy Arthur Millner. \n\nThe glazed
architectural ceramics of the Indian subcontinent\, mostly produced during
the Sultanate and Mughal periods\, are remarkable for their variety of de
sign and technique. It could be argued that the artistic inventiveness\, s
een in tiles produced in this region rivals\, and even surpasses those tha
t are seen in the great production centres of Iran\, Central Asia and Turk
ey. Sadly\, what is left today are fragmentary remains as a result of the
ravages of time\, climate\, vandalism and neglect. \n\nJoin us for an ill
ustrated talk\, as Arthur Millner highlights the key themes of his recent
book\, Indian Tiles\, showing examples of the various regional types.
