Painted terracotta figurine of Ardhanareeshwa – a composite androgynous form of the deity Shiva and his consort Parvati of the Hindu pantheon.

This kind of moulded and painted terracotta idol is mainly used for worship during the Navratri festival in southern India. Characters are usually drawn from mythologies and local legends, though depictions of people from rural societies are also not uncommon.
